Dodger is a 3-year-old Goldendoodle from North Hollywood, CA, here for a two-week Community Board and Train program. He’s a great boy with happy, friendly energy and a social personality that makes him a joy to be around. That said, Dodger needs some serious work on his manners and overall obedience, as he can get a bit overexcited and forget his boundaries. He’s also showing leash reactivity, especially around distractions, which we’ll be addressing throughout his stay. With consistency, structure, and clear communication, Dodger has tons of potential to channel his enthusiasm into polite, well-balanced behavior.

Today was Dodger’s first day of training, and he’s doing very well so far. We focused on teaching him what leash pressure means and how to turn it off by making the right choice.
He’s learning that light pressure isn’t something to fight against — it’s information. When he moves toward the direction of the pressure or gives to it, the pressure immediately releases. He’s already starting to understand that his decisions control the outcome, which is a big step forward.
We kept things clear and simple, rewarding calm responses and engagement. For day one, he showed a great attitude and willingness to learn. Looking forward to building on this foundation tomorrow.

Dodger had a strong second day of training and continues to impress. He’s catching on quickly and showing great engagement during our sessions.
Today we focused on introducing Heel and building clarity around position and attention while moving. He’s starting to understand where he should be and is offering nice focus when we’re in motion.
We also worked on jumping up onto Place, building confidence and commitment to getting all four paws up and staying there. He’s responding well and already showing improvement with repetition.
Overall, Dodger is doing very well — motivated, responsive, and learning fast. Looking forward to building on this tomorrow!

Today we focused on building Dodger’s core behaviors — Sit and Down. We’re working through the three D’s: Distance, Duration, and Distraction, making sure each piece is introduced and layered in properly.
This foundation work is extremely important. If the three D’s aren’t built up gradually and correctly, behaviors can start to fall apart when the environment changes. Dodger is learning that commands apply not just right in front of us, but with space, time, and mild distractions added in.
He’s progressing well and showing good focus. We’re taking our time to make sure everything is clear, consistent, and solid before increasing difficulty. Strong foundations now mean reliability later.

Today was all about socialization, desensitization, and building true neutrality — especially in high-distraction environments.
Dodger was exposed to a variety of sights, sounds, movement, and overall environmental pressure. The focus wasn’t on excitement or interaction, but on learning how to exist calmly and confidently around everything going on. We worked on helping him observe without reacting, maintaining composure even when distractions were layered in.
He’s learning that he doesn’t need to engage with every stimulus around him. Instead, we’re reinforcing calm behavior, steady mindset, and clear decision-making. When something new or stimulating appeared, the goal was neutrality — not avoidance, not over-interest — just relaxed awareness.
He made solid progress today. With guidance and structure, he’s beginning to understand that the world can move around him without him needing to move with it. This foundation is extremely important and will continue to be built carefully and consistently.

Today Dodger took his training on the road, turning the aisles of Home Depot into his classroom.
Instead of a single structured session, the entire outing became an ongoing lesson. From the moment we stepped through the entrance, he was asked to maintain composure and clarity while carts rolled past, doors slid open, and conversations echoed around him. We weaved through lumber, paused near the garden center, and worked stretches of purposeful off-leash heeling, extended place work, and thoughtful neutrality in high-traffic areas.
Moderate distractions were constant — the hum of machinery, shifting merchandise, strangers moving unpredictably — yet Dodger rose to the occasion. He made deliberate choices to stay connected, checking in willingly and responding with growing reliability. When his attention wavered, he recovered quickly, showing maturity and understanding rather than impulsivity.
What stood out most was his mindset. He’s beginning to move through stimulating environments with a steadier presence, thinking first instead of reacting. Days like this aren’t about perfection — they’re about building resilience and clarity — and Dodger is progressing in a way that’s both encouraging and sustainable.

Dodger spent this Valentine’s Day reaching an exciting new milestone as we began transitioning him into off-leash work. With a thoughtful, step-by-step approach, he’s learning that the same structure and expectations still apply, even with the added freedom. He showed a genuine willingness to stay connected, frequently choosing to check in and remain engaged rather than drifting off on his own.
There’s a noticeable shift in his confidence as he starts to understand that being off leash isn’t about independence, but about trust and partnership. His focus is strengthening, and he’s beginning to carry himself with more purpose and clarity. It was a meaningful step forward for him today, and a fitting reminder of the growing bond and understanding he’s building. Happy Valentine’s Day from Dodger.

Dodger returned to the park today for another dedicated off-leash session, and he continues to make meaningful strides in both his focus and decision-making. With the freedom of distance, he is learning that the expectation to stay mentally connected remains the same, and he is beginning to choose engagement more naturally rather than relying on constant guidance.
Surrounded by the open environment and its many distractions, Dodger showed growing maturity, checking in more consistently and demonstrating a clearer understanding of his responsibilities. Each repetition helps strengthen his reliability, and he is steadily building the trust and consistency that off-leash freedom requires. He is making proud, steady progress.

Dodger’s day was a balance of progress and honest learning moments. We spent time reinforcing his door manners, and while the concept is beginning to take shape, it’s still a bit rough around the edges. His enthusiasm occasionally gets the better of him, but the important part is that he’s starting to pause and think instead of simply reacting. These early stages can be messy, but they’re necessary stepping stones, and I’m confident that with another day of consistent work, tomorrow will feel noticeably smoother and more natural for him.
Before the rain moved in, we also took advantage of the dry window to practice his off-leash obedience. He showed a genuine willingness to stay connected and responsive, working through his commands with growing awareness. Even when his environment competed for his attention, he made the effort to tune back in, which is exactly the mindset we want to continue building.
Dodger is in that important phase where the lessons aren’t perfect yet, but the understanding is clearly forming. His confidence is growing, his effort is there, and with continued repetition and guidance, these skills will soon become second nature.

Dodger took his skills on the road today with a training trip to Bass Pro Shops, where the environment provided a steady stream of moderate, real-world distractions. Among the shifting sounds, passing shoppers, and new scents, he remained composed and engaged. He demonstrated a clear understanding of his responsibilities, responding to direction with willingness and precision. His focus stayed anchored on his handler, and he showed a growing maturity in his ability to work through environmental pressure without losing clarity. Overall, Dodger continues to prove that his foundation is strengthening, and his reliability in public spaces is progressing nicely.

We’ve begun the multi-day process of preparing Dodger for his final video, focusing on refining every detail so his performance reflects the full extent of his training. These preparation days are about consistency and clarity, ensuring his responses remain sharp, confident, and reliable across different settings and repetitions.
Dodger has been approaching this phase with excellent maturity, maintaining strong engagement and composure as we revisit and polish each expectation. Rather than learning anything new, this stage is about reinforcing what he already knows and making sure it presents cleanly and naturally on camera.
He’s showing the kind of steadiness and understanding that make this final stretch especially rewarding. With each day of preparation, he’s becoming more dialed-in and ready to deliver a final video that truly represents his capabilities.

Another round of stormy weather kept us mostly indoors today, which gave us the perfect opportunity to focus on Dodger’s food manners. We worked on reinforcing patience and impulse control around his meals, ensuring he understands that calm, respectful behavior is what earns him access.
Dodger is making solid progress in this area. He’s beginning to show more consistency in waiting appropriately and looking for guidance instead of acting on impulse. Even with the added restlessness that rainy days can bring, he remained engaged in the work and showed a clear understanding of what’s being asked of him.
These sessions are an important step in building overall self-control, and Dodger continues to move in the right direction.

Dodger took full advantage of the beautiful weather today and had an absolute blast showing off at the playground. He practiced weaving in and out of the swing set, treating it like his own personal obstacle course while staying engaged and responsive the entire time.
He’s learning that training can be fun, and moments like this help build his confidence, focus, and trust. Even in an environment designed for excitement and distraction, Dodger did a great job balancing fun with listening.
He’s not just working—he’s thriving.

Today was Dodger’s last day of training—what a success! He is heading home tomorrow, and we’re so proud of how much he’s learned.
He nailed off-leash walking and obedience in his final sessions: reliable recalls with distractions, steady heel work off-leash, solid sits/downs/stays even around people and other dogs, and calm handling of surprises like skateboards and running kids.
We wrapped up with relaxed park practice—lots of praise, play breaks, and he showed off his skills confidently to a few other dogs and owners.
He’s more focused, responsive, and settled than ever. Huge progress in just weeks—he’s ready to bring it all home.
So proud of you, Dodger. You crushed it, buddy.
