Writer: Amanda LascariAmanda Lascari

Covey, a six month old Belgian Malinois, joine OffLeash SoCal for our two week board and train program. Covey is a sweet and energetic girl who comes to us with lack of following commands, jumping to greet, leash pulling, and playing too rough when playing. Over the next two weeks Covey will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Today Covey and I went to the park to start her training. I introduced and conditioned her to the ecollar. We practiced commands sit, place, and heel. Place is a command where Covey must sit or lay on an object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching Covey to be relaxed and calm. The Heel command is still a work in progress, but Covey is walking a lot better now by my side and not pulling.

Today Covey and I met with other OffLeash Socal trainers at a mall. We were able to beat the heat and work inside the mall. Covey did a very good job with all the distractions going on around her. She stayed focused and followed all her commands. We worked on Place, Sit, and Heel.

Today Covey and I went to Huntington Beach to work on her commands. We worked on a new command, come to sit. She did very well at the beach, she was interested in everything going on around us but still stayed focused and followed her commands.

today Covey and I went to the park to work on her commands. We practiced come to sit, place, and heel. We worked on a new command today, Down. Its still a work in progress, she doesn’t really care for this command and puts up a little struggle before she decides to lay down.

Today Covey's stomach wasn't feeling too well. I noticed she had diarrhea this morning. I fed her pumpkin, which she loved, and white rice to help soak up whatever is upsetting her stomach. I will continue to keep watch and see if it continues. We stayed home and worked on her obedience commands. Covey is coming along well with her training. We are working on her duration, holding a command, and distance. She is almost ready to work off leash!

Covey's stomach is still upset, she still has soft stool. We stayed home again and worked on all her obedience commands. Today we tried working without a leash. She was a little confused without the guidance of the leash, but it's okay. We will keep practicing and soon she will be ready to work without the leash.

Today Covey and I met with another OffLeash SoCal trainer at Westfield Mall to work on her off leash obedience around more distractions. She was a little distracted at first with all the commotion going on, but she refocused and followed all her commands. Someone came up and complimented Covey on how well behaved she was.

Today Covey joined me on a little shopping spree at The Block at Orange. She did a great job with her off leash obedience. She spent the rest of her day playing with her furry friends and got a bath. She can’t wait to go home and show you all she has learned!
