This is Charger, a 6 month old German Short-haired Pointer from Camarillo, CA here for our Two Week Board and Train program. Charger is a sweet and funny girl who loves to explore new places but she has some trouble jumping on people, pulling/biting the leash, and selective hearing! Over the next two weeks, Charger will learn basic and fundamental commands to help her become the best version of herself so stay tuned for her PAWsome transformation!

Charger had a big day today. She settled in well so we worked on e collar training just for a little today. Overall, I noticed she is a very stubborn pup. She does a great Sit when she wants to. Charger is still getting used to what does the e collar means. She met the other training dog today very briefly and that went well. Since the other dog is a very mellow dog, Charger acted very calm which was great. I can tell she is unsure about a lot of things so I am going to expose her to as many different textures and places as I can while we are in training. She did not eat much of her food. Peeing fine and pooped tonight.

Charger had a good day today. I took her on a long walk to practice all the commands to get a better idea of what she knows and what we need to work on more. Overall, she did well. Her duration commands needs some help as she tends to get out of the command frequently. Charger struggled with the down command a little bit today. After a couple reps of going on different place objects, she was doing very well. Great work Charger! She is improving on her heel but sometimes she strays away from my leg. She is eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally.

Today I focused mainly on Place and duration work. Overall, Charger did really well! She is understanding the concept of the e collar much better each time we have a training session and she is improving every day which is great news. As you can see in the video, she still does have a tendency to jump up and bite the leash. I demonstrated how you should stop that behavior. She also had a small tantrum without any leash pressure or using the e collar so I just let her have her moment. Once she was done, I told her a command. Her stubbornness is getting better but sometimes it still occurs when she does not want to come forward. She is eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally.

Charger had a very productive day today. I took her to another park with a tennis court to practice recall. I wanted to see how she would do in an enclosed area because you mentioned she is known to run away. There were times where she would do really well with coming back to me when I called her but sometimes she would have tantrums and try to run. I think it is going to take time for her to realize she needs to listen regardless if she wants to or not. We will be going to a tennis court again to practice. I worked on her other commands and she seemed to do well at those for the most part. She is still working on duration work. I had the other training dog and my dog ran around the tennis court to play and she had a great time.

Charger had a good day today at the Cheviot Hills park. She mainly worked on Heel with new distractions around. She was doing well heeling with a very loose leash so I tried having the leash drag on the ground. As I mentioned in the video, as soon as I started dragging the leash she wanted to go to the grass but it might have been because she needed to go potty again. She is still working on her duration commands and she is making small progress each day. She is eating/drinking/peeing/pooping normally.

I took Charger to an outdoor mall to work on training with more distractions and a different environment. I noticed today she would get out of a command when I would move closer to her so we will practice walking around her. She has improved on not getting distracted when people walk by her. I noticed that when I start to worry that she will walk away, she panics and makes unpredictable moves. She tried to run at the mall today so I am not too confident in her off leash ability all the way yet. Although on the same note, she was dragging the leash some of the time at the mall which was great. I just had to make sure to keep it positive.

Another OffLeash SoCal training pup. She was very interested in him.

I took Charger to a local outdoor mall to work on commands with new distractions. She is still making progress each day. She is at the point where she knows all the commands but we are now learning she still has to do them with bigger distractions around. So when we are doing the commands in a larger public setting, the commands are not as consistent when we do them in a place like a park. Charger was heeling well today dragging the leash so I worked more on off leash heeling. While she was off leash heeling, there were moments where she would seem unsure what to do. When I felt like she seemed unsure, I just kept a very positive tone and a lot of praise and that helped her confidence. Most of her difficulties are due to lack of confidence so we will be working on increasing her confidence.

Charger practiced more off leash training at a local outdoor mall and I am very proud of how well she did today. Her heel has really improved in the past couple days so that is great news. Charger needs to work on Come to Sit a little more as she tends to get confused where to go after I say "come". Her lack of confidence shows up when she is in an extended command like Place and Down as she gets up when she hears unfamiliar noises. Charger needs to work on Come to Sit and doing commands with loud distractions.

Charger sun bathing at the mall.

Charger had a good day today at the Simi Valley mall. She was heeling really well and staying in duration commands better. I noticed today that after a couple reps of doing the same command, she starts doubting herself and she panics. For example, I was practicing come to sit while she was on place. The first two times I did it, she did well although a little spazzy. Then, when I tried it the third and fourth time, she was not coming to me. From now on, I will be having her come to sit by making a u-turn instead of going behind me. See yesterday's video for visual. She has no problem going on different place objects which is great because that is increasing her confidence each time. Great work Charger!

I worked on home manners today like food manners, crate manners, and door manners. Not only is it a part of the required manners within the program, it is important for the pups to understand the rules still apply inside the home where they are most comfortable. Overall, Charger did very well. If she got up out of command, I had to remember to be very soft with her as she tends to shut down quickly. When she did the command right, I would really praise her for it and increase the pitch of my tone. Charger did better with staying in command as you can tell in the video. It did not take her long to understand what I was asking her to do.

PUPDATE 1/27/2022

Charger had a good day today. I had her mostly off leash at the local town center. I feel more confident in her off leash abilities each training session. Charger was heeling very well with me today and her come to sit was great. The only thing I noticed today is she gets very distracted with smells or items on the ground. When she is in a down command, she stays in command but sniffs all the smells around her.

PUPDATE 1/28/2022

Charger had a great day at the Santa Monica promenade. I’m really proud of how far she has come. Although we are still working on her confidence, she listens to all the commands and they are very sharp when she does them. In the second portion of the video, I want you to take note of her behavior. Clearly, she knows the down command but sometimes she overthinks it and she spins around. The most important thing to do if this happens is letting her figure it out on her own and me not forcing her into the position.

PUPDATE 1/29/2022

Charger worked really hard today at a mall we previously have been to. I worked on her final video shoot today and she did very well. There were a lot of distractions including aggressive dogs, running kids, and the escalator. She was a little timid about the escalator but other than that, she kept calm as we trained and worked through it. She stayed on place and her down command well today. Her heel was awesome throughout the entire day. Everyone was saying how cute and well behaved she was.

PUPDATE 1/30/2022

Charger had a great day today. We went to a brand new area to work on new distractions off leash. She was a rockstar! She was heeling very well the entire time and I feel more confident in her off leash abilities. Charger did well when distractions like dogs and kids walked by her as seen in the video. She did much better with her down command today so that was awesome to see. She has really made a lot of progress in two weeks and she really learns something new each day and gets better and better. Can't wait to show you her progress tomorrow!
