Bruno, a one year old Border Collie, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and train program. Bruno comes to us knowing his commands but doesn’t always listen if distracted. Bruno has to wear a muzzle out in public because he is reactive towards other dogs and will lunge at them or redirect on his owner. He is protective over his owner and will nip if someone tries to approach. Bruno gets very nervous at anything that sounds like fireworks. Over the two weeks Bruno will be working on his obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Bruno is settling in at my home. He got to meet the rest of my pack. As expected, he was very reactive towards them. He has warmed up to me and was very sweet with my sister. He walked right up to and sat next to her to be pet.

Today Bruno and I went to the park to work on his obedience. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Down, and Place. He did pretty well and caught. On to Place very quickly. Bruno can be a bit stubborn at times when he doesn’t want to follow commands. He did well with meeting my boyfriend today. He didn’t growl or nip. Bruno actually ran right up to him and laid down next to him to be pet. Bruno is still not fond of the other dogs at my home, but is becoming less reactive towards them when they pass by his kennel.

Today Bruno and I went to the park to work on is obedience. We met with other Offleash Socal Trainers and their dogs, so Bruno could practice around other dogs distractions. He was definitely interested in them, but he wasn’t reactive. He was able to follow through with his sit in down around the other dogs. The only time he was when he would walk in between them. You can see in the video that he tries to avoid them or he stops tries to throw his tantrum, not wanting to walk by them. As we continue to practice, Bruno was able to get closer to the dogs. He was able to sit right next to another dog without trying to lunge or bark at it.

Today Bruno and I went to the beach to work on his obedience around distractions. He did pretty well. He was focused and obedient. There were plenty of dog distractions for Bruno to practice around. He didn’t try to lunge or bark, but instead, he was actually trying to avoid them. He would pull away if we walked too close, or he would avoid looking at them if they passed by us.

Today Bruno joined me on a little shopping spree at the mall. He got to practice his commands around many distractions. He did very well. Bruno worked without his muzzle. We passed by a few dogs without any reactivity.

Today Bruno and I stayed home to train. We worked on all his commands. We worked on his distance and duration. Bruno did well and followed all his commands.
Pupdate 5/1/2023
Today Bruno and I went to Lowe’s to work on his obedience around distractions. We started practicing his commands semi-off leash. I let him drag the leash around while we trained. He did really well. He was focused and obedient. Bruno let one of the employees pet him today. He actually walked right up to her and sat down to be pet. He did great walking pass people in the aisles.

Today Bruno and I went to the mall to work on his obedience around distractions. We worked semi-off leash. He did a great job! Bruno was focused and obedient. He had a few admirers that stopped to watch him train.

Today Bruno and I went to the park to work on his off leash obedience. we worked on his distance and duration. At home, we worked on his food manners, teaching him to sit politely and wait until I give him permission to eat. Also practiced his door manners, teaching Bruno not to pass threshold until given permission.

Today Bruno and I went to the mall to work on his off leash obedience around distractions. He did very well. He was focused and obedient. Bruno had a few admirers stop to watch him train. He sat nicely for people to pet him.

Today Bruno took the day off from training and spent his last day playing and relaxing before he goes home tomorrow. I gave him a bath so he could be clean when he sees you, but it didn’t last very long. Bruno rolled around in the dirt getting all dirty again. I am very proud of him and the progress he has made! Bruno can’t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
