Meet Bohdi! He's a six month old Cane Corso from Ontario, California, and he's here for our Three-Week Board and Train Program! Bohdi loves to play bite and nip! He can be very pushy and has even knocked people over. On leash he loved to pull, and can be reactive to people and other dogs. He also needs a lot of work on his obedience skills, as he often decides for himself when he wants to listen! We will also be helping with his potty training! Over the next twenty one days we will help with all of these issues, as well as working on his manners in and out of the house! Stay tuned for Bohdi's three week transformation!

Today was Bohdi’s first day with me, and overall it was a really good start! After picking him up, we headed over to the park to spend some time together. Bohdi definitely has a lot of strength — he’s a big puller on the leash right now, and he did bark at a few people we passed. That said, he was also very quick to engage with me and showed a lot of friendliness once he had a few minutes to settle.
After some exploring and walking at the park, we made our way home. Once we arrived, I gave Bohdi some time to sniff around the house to start getting familiar with his new environment. He explored pretty thoroughly and seemed to relax more with every minute. It's clear that he's a curious dog who likes to take in his surroundings before fully settling.
So far, Bohdi seems to really like it here. He's already showing signs that he's comfortable around me, and he even got along nicely with my dog, which is a great start! I’m excited to continue working with him and helping him settle in even more over the next few days. I can already tell he’s going to make a lot of progress once he gets into the rhythm of training and daily life here.

Today Bohdi and I headed to Whittier Narrows Park, where we met up with some other trainers and their dogs. Bohdi was curious and interested in several of the other dogs, and he did bark at one, but overall he handled the environment fairly well. We spent a good amount of time simply sitting and working on staying calm around all the activity, which is an important step for helping him feel more comfortable and focused in busy environments.
We also introduced Bohdi to his e-collar today and began working on his basic commands. We focused on Heel and Come To Sit. For Heel, the goal is for Bohdi to walk politely at my left side, keeping his ears roughly in line with my knee. For Come To Sit, I want him to come to my right side when called, move around behind me, and finish by sitting neatly at my left side, again with his ears at my knee.
We took things slow to make sure he was set up for success, and Bohdi is already starting to get the hang of these new movements. He’s showing good potential and I’m excited to keep building on today’s work!

Bohdi and I headed to Almansor Park today for some fresh air, training, and a bit of fun! He had a good time exploring the area, especially when we got close to the geese and ducks—those definitely caught his attention and made focusing a little more challenging. We spent some extra time in that part of the park to help him practice working around distractions.
One of our main focuses today was Bohdi’s Down command. He’s happy to comply when a tasty treat is on the line, but still hesitant when asked verbally without a reward. We’re continuing to build that consistency so he understands and responds reliably, even without a snack.
After our session, Bohdi was more than ready for a well-earned nap. He did have a small accident and peed in his crate on the way to the park, but aside from that, he’s been doing well with going potty outside. He’s making steady progress, and we’ll keep helping him stay on track.

Today we headed back to the park for more training and progress! One behavior we focused on was Bohdi’s discomfort with people or animals being behind him during walks. To help him work through this, I had my own dog walk up behind us, wait in place behind us, play nearby, and occasionally come up from behind. This gave Bohdi repeated exposure to movement and activity behind him without requiring him to constantly turn around to check it out. He’s doing better with this already and is starting to trust that he doesn’t need to monitor everything going on behind him!
In addition to that, Bohdi continues to improve with his other commands, staying more focused and responsive during our session.
On the potty front, he held a little pee again for our morning drive to the park. It's still unclear whether this is due to nervousness about the car ride or an urge to mark there but we’ll continue monitoring.

Today was a quieter day overall, with most of our focus spent at home working on in-home manners and the Place command. While we did get some fresh air outside, the bulk of Bohdi’s progress came from building calm, focused behavior indoors.
We’re working on teaching Bohdi to hop onto a raised surface—like a place cot—and stay there until released or given a new command. This is not only a great tool for building confidence in public, but it’s also incredibly useful at home for daily routines like cooking, cleaning, or answering the door. Eventually, I’d like Bohdi to stay on Place for the entire time I’m cooking and eating dinner.
He’s not quite at that level yet—he still wants to shadow me around the house occasionally—but he’s catching on quickly. After a good park outing, when he’s ready to settle in, he does especially well. With consistency and repetition, he’s on the right track to mastering this valuable skill!

Bohdi and I took his training to the next level today by practicing some of his commands at the park with the leash dragging. This technique helps me gauge how he might respond off-leash, while still giving me the ability to step in if needed. After lots of warm-up reps with the leash in hand—and with some food to keep him focused—he did an okay job. It's worth noting that this was in a very low-distraction environment, which helped him stay somewhat engaged.
On the potty training front, we're still working to dial in a schedule that clicks for Bohdi. I had previously suspected that car rides might be throwing things off, but yesterday we didn't drive at all, and he still had a small accident in the evening. Today, he had another accident indoors at a seemingly random time. Most puppies do well once they’re on a consistent potty routine, but Bohdi’s been a bit more unpredictable so far. It also could be due to his confidence level, which has slowly been increasing. That said, he’s a good boy and seems to be trying, so I’ll keep observing and adjusting to figure out a rhythm that works for him. We'll get there!

Today, we continued working on Bohdi’s commands with a special focus on his Heel while the leash was dragging. He's making steady progress, but the most challenging command for him without leash guidance has been Place. This might be a sign of some lower confidence, which could also be contributing to his occasional potty accidents. With that in mind, I’ll be putting extra effort into helping build up his confidence in the coming days.
It started to drizzle a bit this afternoon, so we spent most of the later part of the day indoors. On a positive note—no potty accidents today so far!

Since it rained on and off more today, I wanted to go ahead and show one of the indoor manners we've been practicing—Door Manners. The goal here is to teach Bohdi to remain calm and composed when the door opens, whether he's napping, playing, or even if someone knocks. In today’s video, I had Bohdi sit while I opened the door. While the sit is helpful during training, the ultimate goal is for the door opening to be a nonevent, requiring no specific command.
Bohdi is still working through some excitement, especially when he thinks we're coming back inside, but he’s making solid progress. One of the key things we're reinforcing is that he should never try to push through the door ahead of me—he needs to wait for an invitation. This mindset extends to other thresholds too, like gates, fences, or doorways within the house.
Overall, Bohdi is getting the hang of it, and with a bit more practice, he’ll have calm and respectful doorway behavior down in no time!
Bohdi did not have a potty accident yesterday, and he started this morning strong when he peed outside exactly when I asked him "go potty." I'm not confident yet, but this could mark an extreme turnaround in his potty training.

Pupdate: 5/5/2025
Today’s main focus was polite play, both with people and other dogs. Bohdi has a habit of jumping and nipping during play, which we're working to correct. When playing with me, I used the "Off" command and stand straight up whenever he put his paws or mouth on me. He’s starting to understand that this behavior ends playtime, and he responded fairly well.
Playing appropriately with other dogs was a bit more challenging. Fortunately, my own dog has been incredibly helpful in this process. She gave Bohdi a healthy amount of play while also setting clear boundaries when his behavior became too much. These natural corrections are invaluable, as it’s just as important for Bohdi to learn polite dog-to-dog interaction as it is to learn people manners.
Overall, Bohdi is gaining valuable experience reading and responding to canine body language, especially from a larger dog with a similar play style. This is an important step in helping him grow into a well-mannered, respectful companion.

This afternoon, Bohdi and I headed to Home Depot for some indoor training while it was drizzling outside. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect going in, but he actually handled the experience better than anticipated. The store was full of new sights and sounds, and while there were several surprises—like loud forklifts, rolling carts, and unexpected noises—that caught him off guard, he showed real effort in working through those challenges.
To help set him up for success, we spent most of our time in the garden center and quieter aisles, which offered a calmer environment. While simply walking through the store, Bohdi was fairly polite and responsive, and he moved with me well. One area that still needs some work is his ability to hold a Sit when I create distance; he had no problem staying seated right beside me, but struggled a bit when I stepped away. That said, his confidence is definitely on the rise, and I can see the foundation forming.
With a bit more exposure and continued practice, Bohdi will be ready to start adding distance to his commands in public. For now, he’s making solid progress and showing a willingness to work through new challenges. Great job today, Bohdi!

Bohdi had a more relaxed, fun-filled day at the park today thanks to the beautiful weather! While we still practiced his commands, the focus was on incorporating structure into playtime. One key goal was reinforcing that Bohdi shouldn't jump up on me—even when he's excited and having fun. He's been doing great with this and hasn’t jumped in quite a while. We also worked on his ability to pause play when asked and return to a command right away. This part is still a bit of a challenge since Bohdi is such a playful pup, but he’s showing improvement and becoming more responsive each session. Great progress today!

Today, Bohdi took a field trip to Santa Anita Mall! At first, he wasn’t too sure about the new environment—it was a bit overwhelming for him. Thankfully, we brought along his new puppy friend, who’s much more confident and helped encourage Bohdi to loosen up. Her playful energy rubbed off on him, and before long, Bohdi was starting to have some fun and enjoy himself, even through moments of nervousness.
There were a few things that made him uneasy, like large rolling carts being used to load inventory, but with some reassurance, he handled it like a champ. One highlight of the trip was the fountain with the turtles—Bohdi was very curious about them, but with a little guidance, he stayed polite and respectful.
Overall, it was a great experience for Bohdi as he continues learning to navigate new environments with confidence!

Bohdi had a great training session today at the Santa Monica Promenade! He started off confident and handled the busy environment really well, staying engaged and responsive to his commands despite all the distractions. He was focused, attentive, and in good spirits for the first part of the outing.
Midway through the session, a skateboard zipped by and startled him, which made him a bit more cautious moving forward. He started scanning the area more and seemed a little on edge. Considering that and the fact that he'd already had a full day, we took the opportunity to shift gears and practice winding down and relaxing in a stimulating environment. Once we got home, Bohdi took a well-deserved nap and rested up after a job well done!

Bohdi is back in Santa Monica! He started out the day a bit nervous in the familiar but bustling environment, but with some time and encouragement, he was able to settle down and even have a little fun during training. We focused on practicing his greeting manners today—specifically, having him sit politely while being greeted by strangers. While he wasn’t quite able to hold his sit just yet, the exercise was still a great way to help him open up socially and realize that the location isn’t so scary after all. With continued practice, we’re confident he’ll start building more confidence and impulse control in these kinds of situations. Great job today, Bohdi!

It was a hot one today, so we made sure to head out early before the heat kicked in. Bohdi got some good movement in and then we spent the rest of the day relaxing indoors in the air conditioning.
One of the main things we've been working on lately is his food manners. Bohdi definitely enjoys his meals—especially in the evening—and sometimes gets a little too enthusiastic, jumping with excitement. We’ve been practicing having him wait politely before eating, even if I set the bowl down and walk away. He’s starting to catch on that patience pays off! This kind of training is not just about manners—it’s also great for impulse control and safety, like if something hot or unsafe falls on the floor while cooking.
Overall, he’s doing a great job adapting to structure and routines. Looking forward to more cool-weather training soon!

Bohdi had a great day today! He did an awesome job hanging out with my dog — they got along really well and had a lot of fun together. It was nice to see him relaxed and social, and he handled the interaction with ease. Great job, Bohdi!

Bohdi had a fun and exciting day! We took a trip to the park where he got to stretch his legs, take in the sights and smells, and enjoy some quality time outdoors. He seemed to really enjoy himself and soaked up all the attention and fresh air.
The big moment today was introducing Bohdi to his new roommate! While they aren’t best friends just yet, it’s a solid start. They're still feeling each other out, and we’ll continue to take things slow and positive to help build a comfortable relationship between them. With a little time and patience, we’re confident they’ll learn to coexist peacefully—maybe even become buddies down the road!
Great job today, Bohdi!

Bohdi did a great job today! He handled all of his commands well and stayed engaged throughout our session. What stood out the most, though, was how helpful he was with his new friend, Fiona. Their time together has been very structured so far, but Bohdi is doing an excellent job of being friendly while still respecting her space and boundaries.
He’s setting a great example with his calm demeanor and thoughtful energy, which is already having a positive impact on her. We're proud of the progress he’s making—not just in his own training, but in how he's supporting another dog as well. Way to go, Bohdi!

Pupdate: 5/15/2025
Bohdi enjoyed a relaxing and well-balanced day today! We focused on reinforcing his manners and taking some calm, structured walks. He seemed to really enjoy the slower pace and handled everything with a nice, steady energy.
One of the highlights was how well he’s been doing with his Place command at home. He stayed calmly on his cot while I was cooking and cleaning—something that used to be more challenging for him. It’s great to see him settling in so well and showing off those impulse control skills. Keep it up, Bohdi!

Pupdate: 5/16/2025
Today Bohdi worked on refining his Under command! This cue is especially useful when you’re out at a patio restaurant, cafe, or waiting area—anywhere with chairs or tables where he can tuck himself out of the way and stay politely in place. We practiced having him go under a variety of benches and chairs, and he’s starting to understand that once he's there, he should stay calmly until released.
He needed a little guidance at first, especially when new distractions were nearby, but with consistency and encouragement, Bohdi began to settle more confidently in each spot. As he improves, this command will help him be a respectful companion in public settings, giving both you and those around you more space and peace of mind. Great work, Bohdi!

Today, Bohdi took a trip to Santa Anita Mall, and he did a great job navigating a pretty crowded environment! Despite the bustling atmosphere, with lots of people and noise, Bohdi remained polite and well-mannered throughout our outing. One of the biggest challenges came when children were running and playing near him—definitely a tough distraction—but Bohdi stayed mostly calm and composed, which is a big win. He’s learning to stay focused and make good choices even when the world around him is busy. Great work today, Bohdi!
