Meet Beef! He's a thirty six month old Havapoo from Los Angeles California, here for our Two-Week Board and Train Program! Beef is a sweet and loving pup and loves to cuddle, but sometimes too much! He jumps and begs for attention, and gets in your face if any time he wants! He also marks any object he walks by, and wants to walk anywhere he chooses. He will beg for food from the table and has trouble with his general household manners. He also needs a lot of work on his basic obedience commands! Over the next fourteen days, we will help Beef with his manners in and out of the house, teach him some basic obedience skills, work on setting personal boundaries and show him how to be the best pup he can possibly be! Stay tuned for Beef's two week transformation!

After picking up Beef, we headed over to Almansor Park to get to know each other! He's a very sweet boy and seemed to love sniffing me and being next to me almost immediately. He definitely likes to pull wherever he wants and he tends to mark on almost any object we walk by, but he generally did a good job sticking with me. Since it's mother's day (happy mother's day by the way!) There were several crowds at the park. He seemed a little uncomfortable with the people, for example, when I was taking pictures of him, he constantly wanted to turn toward the various parties, as if the noise and people were alarming to him.
Back at home, I let Beef sniff around my house and get settled in! He was much more confident in my home than at the park. He didn't eat much of his kibble, but other than that, he seems to me settling in well!

Beef and I went to Whittier Narrows Park today for training! When we first arrived, he was very nervous and on edge. We worked around several other dogs, which distracted him a little bit, but he seemed to warm up fairly quickly. He seemed happy to sit and mostly relax around those other dogs.

Beef and I walked to the Park today for training! We walked with my other board and train dog and they ended up getting along very well! Beef initially wanted to pull away from the other dog when we first started walking, but he quickly sniffed her and they're becoming good friends! Soon he was walking next to her with little issue! When passing someone, Beef did try to pull toward them and jump, as if he wanted them to pick him up, but he sat back down and continued walking politely with me after using the leash as well as his E collar.

Beef and I went to Almansor Park today for training! He was nervous for the first half, but that seems to be normal for him. We played around in the fields and walked around to get him more calmed down. After a while, he started to get used to the environment, and we worked on his commands. We spent most of our time working on his Come To Sit command. This is our recall command where I want Beef to come to my right side, walk around my legs and sit at my left side with his ears at my leg. Initially, Beef wanted to just run up to me and jump, but he's finally starting to resist the urge to jump and perform the motion more calmly!

Beef and I went to Home Depot today for training! He was extremely nervous for most of our time there. His focus was all over the place and he was shaking for the first little while we were there. After a while he started responding pretty well to his commands, but was still visibly nervous. When we were leaving, he got very excited to see the car and started wagging his tail vigorously when he was finally back in the car getting pets. After that, we went back to the park so that Beef could get some time in a more relaxing environment!

Beef and I went to Almansor Park today for training! When we first got out of the car, he was once again nervous to be out and about. We mainly worked on his Place and Down commands today. Place can be good for confidence building and is a great way to give your dog a specific area to stick to inside the house if you're cooking, cleaning, or are expecting guests.
Beef threw a little temper tantrum while practicing Down, but with some patience and consistency he ended up doing a pretty good job with both commands.

Beef and I went to the park with another dog today for training! He's met this dog plenty of times, so it only took a little while for him to get used to being that close to her, although he did struggle with his heel a bit more than he typically does.
The park was extremely busy today, with baseball games and other activities going on throughout the areas. The baseball sections were especially noisy, and Beef had the most trouble there. In quieter areas of the park he had almost no trouble with any commands or behavior, the shift in his demeanor was immediately noticeable as we moved toward people and noises. He still did a good job, but as usual, his happiest time was when he saw the car and realized we were going home!

Beef and I went to Home Depot today! He did better than last time, although he still had some strong reactions to noise and other distractions.
In today's video, you can see him walking with me and another dog throughout the store. For the most part, he did a really good job staying with us. In the garden center, he seemed fairly calm. Inside the store, he started looking all around and became much more nervous. Whenever someone or something surprised him he would jump with a start and try to look at them. Same thing with any loud noises from the carts, forklifts, and people moving lumber. Other than these nerves, he did a great job behaving, and was fairly reliable with his commands!
Afterward, we went home so Beef could have a break, then went to the park for the rest of the afternoon.

Beef and I went to Santa Anita Mall today! This was a very new environment for Beef, but luckily it wasn't too crowded. Even with a minimal crowd, Beef was still on edge quite a bit. Similar to Home Depot, he eventually got comfortable enough to follow through with his commands, but he was always visibly nervous. Continuously exposing Beef to these new environments and helping him through the tough times is the best way for him to progress at this point. He's doing a wonderful job with his commands and his household behavior, but getting him out and about as much as possible should help push him past those goals!

Beef and I went to Almansor Park today for training! After his usual warm up time, he did a wonderful job all day. After the park we worked on his manners at home! For his door manners I want Beef to wait patiently before entering or exiting the door. I don't want him to rush through before me, or get too excited whenever the door opens. This also applies to gates, fences and any other thresholds in or around the house. For example, my dog isn't allowed in the kitchen, so she waits on her place cot outside the kitchen while I'm making dinner! Beef tends to get really excited and he used to jump all over the place when I opened the door, but he's now doing much better with his impulse control and patience!

Beef and I went to Atlantic Times Square today! It was fairly relaxing, although Beef still needed a lot of time to adjust.
We stopped at one of the cafés in the area and sat for a while to see how Beef would handle it. He took a second to settle in, but he pretty quickly lay down and didn't cause any issues.
Beef is very sensitive to his E collar, so today I tried a new set of contact points that seem like they're more comfortable for him! I'll include a picture above.

Beef went to Santa Anita Mall today! He was nervous in most of the areas, but he did much better than he has on other days. He was able to hold his positions for a solid amount of time even with people and noises all around him. He certainly wasn't completely comfortable, but his improvement was immense!

Beef and I went to Almansor Park today for training! He had a slightly more relaxing day after doing such a good job yesterday! We spent a lot of time by the pond near the geese and ducks. He seemed to be interested and a bit nervous around those animals and the water, but he ended up doing a great job! He was well behaved and mostly playful all day.
He was nice and tired by the time we got home, so he took a nap before we went out for our evening walks.

Beef and I went to Santa Anita Mall today for his last full day of training! We spent a lot of our time sitting around the tables of the outdoor restaurants relaxing. He was definitely nervous at first, but he pretty quickly calmed down and settled in for a nap.
For his video today, I want to show his Food refusal and manners! I'd like Beef to be able to control his urge to pick up or eat anything from the ground. This can be helpful for his overall impulse control, and also be a good safety measure to prevent him from ingesting anything he finds!
