Ava | German Shepherd | Redlands, CA | In-Training

Ava, an 11 month old German Shepherd, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our three week board and train program. Ava is a sweet and and energetic girl who comes to us with lack of following commands, leash pulling, being easily distracted, counter surfing, jumping, and being too rough with the small dog in the household. Over the next three weeks Ava will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Today I introduced and conditioned Ava to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit and Place. Place is a command where Ava must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching her to be relaxed and calm. She is doing good with her food. She isn’t eating it all in one sitting but she is eating it throughout the day. She is having a blast with all her new doggie friends!

Today Ava and I went to the park to work on her command. We practiced commands: come to sit, place, and heel. She is doing very well and catching on really fast to her obedience commands. In the video you see a mom and daughter approach us and asked to pet Ava. i told them as long as she sits they could pet her. Ava was excited at first and you see her try to jump to say hello. I gave her a correction and asked her to sit, she sat and was calm while they pet her. That was our first encounter with other people, but the more we work on her obedience and being calm around distractions the better she will get.

Today I took Ava and her buddy, Dakota, to the Outlets at Orange to work on her obedience around distractions. she was very nervous at first, panting and tail tucked, but after walking around for awhile she was Able to relax. She did very well for being nervous. Ava stayed at my side, followed all her commands and ignored all the people walking around us. A could asked if she was friendly and if they could pet her, but I didn’t let them. I let them
know this was her first outing and she was very nervous, petting her in while she was in a nervous state would be rewarding that behavior. We want Ava to be calm and confident when she’s out in public.

Apologies for the late post, I was having issues uploading Ava’s video. Today Ava and I started working on her off leash obedience! She is doing an awesome job with her training! We need to work more on her distance. She always wants to be right by my side.

Today Ava joined me at my grandparents vineyard for a family get together. Everyone loved her and she was very well behaved. Ava sat patiently while everyone greeted her. She obeyed all her commands, greeted the other family dogs respectfully and was even very gentle with a 8 week old teacup poodle.

Can you tell which one is your Ava? Today Ava helped welcome her new friend, or should I say twin, Ellie to the pack.

Ava working on her off leash obedience around the neighborhood. This morning I noticed she had soft stool. I added an anti-diarrhea liquid to her meals to help settle her stomach and form her stool. I will keep an eye on it and see how she is tomorrow.

Today Ava took the day off from training and spent her last day socializing and playing with her friends. She got a bath. Ava can’t wait to go home and show you all she has learned.
