Ace| German Shepherd | Pasadena, CA | In-Training

Meet Ace, a 4 year old German Shepherd from Pasadena, CA! He will be joining us for our Two Week Board and Train Program! Ace is a very loving, loyal pup who just needs help with a few things! Ace is a very strong boy who loves to walk his owner around while on leash. Also while on walks, Ace sometimes gets too excited when seeing other dogs and becomes vocal. During his training, Ace will be learning leash manners, basic obedience, and staying calm around other dogs! Stay tuned for his two week transformation!

Today Ace and I spent most of the day taking walks around the neighborhood. The reason for just relaxing today is because I didn’t want to stress him out because he just arrived! He was very curious while on walks of his surroundings and was very strong on the leash! Ace wasn’t super hungry tonight, which is totally understandable! Tomorrow we will start his training!

This morning Ace and I started with a morning walk around the neighborhood to work on Heel and Sit. He is still getting used to me and is a bit unsure but was still willing to learn! Later we went to a park and introduced Place and Come! He picked both commands fairly quickly for his first full training day! Later in the day, we took more walks around the neighborhood and let Ace acclimate a bit more! Ace is such a good boy who wants to do his best!

Today Ace and I started our morning with a quick session around the neighborhood. We worked on Sit, Come, Place, Heel. He is making good progress! Later we took a walk to a park near by and worked on Heel, Place, Down, and Come! When I work on Place with Ace, I make sure that the place object isn’t too high for him (knee level) so that he isn’t straining himself too much! So far Ace is making great progress!

This morning Ace and I took a quick walk around the neighborhood before it got too hot. While we were out, we primarily worked on Heel, Sit, and Come. Ace did pretty well! Sometimes he does get cranky when training and becomes more resistant to performing some of the commands. When this happens, I usually give him a break to decompress. Later on we met up with another trainer and we worked on Down and Heel. Since it was a bit hotter while we were out, Ace got a bit resistant and wasn’t too compliant. Instead of just pushing him through his stubbornness, I decided to turn my car on with the A/C and let him cool down for 30 minutes. Once he had a break, we returned back to training and he was a bit better! Since Ace is a bit older, I want to make sure he gets enough breaks during training so he doesn’t become grumpy! I also have noticed Ace doesn’t eat most of his food. I have tried adding chicken broth and watered down peanut butter. I will try adding rice and pumkin to his meals and see if that helps! Other than that, Ace has been a very good boy!

This morning Ace and I took a 30 minute walk around the neighborhood. During our walk, we worked primarily on Heel, Come, and Duration Sit. Ace’s Heel has gotten very sharp and his duration Sit has gotten better! With Ace’s Come, sometimes Ace gets lazy when coming back to me and sometimes he does great and performs the commands great. Later on in the day, Ace and I met up with another trainer at an outdoor Mall where we worked on Heel, Place, and Down. Ace performed Heel, and Place really well. In the down portion of the video, he was struggling a bit with staying in the given command. I would put him in his command and he would get overwhelmed and get back up. Anytime he would get up, I would stay consistent with my leash pressure along with the remote. As soon as Ace starts going back into the down, I would immediately remove the leash pressure! I want Ace to learn that there is a way to turn the pressure off! Once he relaxed I gave him a pet and lots of praise! I will keep working on getting Ace more comfortable in the down! Also I will be adding rice go his food to see if that helps him eat his meals!

Today Ace and I started our morning with a walk around the neighborhood and worked on Heel, Down, Come, and Sit! He is getting better with his down and come. Sometimes he does his commands slowly but will do the commands. Later we went to a lake and worked on his duration place and down. He did fairly well even with some dogs walking around. He will fixate intensely on dogs that are nearby but will ignore when told “off”.

Today Ace and I started our morning with a 30 minute walk/ training session! During this walk, we worked on sharpening Ace’s Come, Heel, and Place! Ace has gotten way better and more responsive to his commands and usually responds the first time asked! Later in the day, we went to Jann’s Marketplace and worked on letting Ace drag the leash while working on Heel, Come, Down, and Place! He did great with his commands but struggled a little bit with his Down Command. Once I gave him a mild directional guidance with his leash, Ace settled down and remained in down! Very happy with Ace’s progress!

Today Ace and I started our morning with a structured walk! During this time, we focused on fine-tuning each command and seeing where Ace needs more work! Ace was very good during this session and only needed one or two reminders for his Come command! Later in the day, Ace and I went to a tennis court and practiced all of his commands offleash! He did really good and his duration work has gotten way better!

He did very well with everything else and stayed very close in his heel! Later we went to the Century City Mall and worked on putting all of Ace’s commands together! Ace did extremely well and staying really tight in his heel and even stayed in his duration down! I’m super proud of Ace’s progress!

Today Ace and I took an easy day today. We took our usual walk around the neighborhood to keep working on all of his commands! He did extremely well and didn’t need any reminders or corrections! Later on we went to a mall and just relaxed while I had Ace practice his duration down! Later on I gave Ace a quick bath to get him clean after letting him play in my yard and roll in some dirt! I did notice when bathing him that he developed a hot spot where his Ecollar is. The photo I took was with the cream on the irritated area, so it looks a bit more red and gunky then usual. I will be putting antibiotic cream on it every day to help it heal quickly and will give him a day or so to not wear the collar. Other than that, Ace has been such a good boy and is making incredible progress!
