Mary | Catahoula Leopard Dog | Los Angeles, CA | In-Training

Mary, a 6 month old Catahoula Leopard Dog, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our two week board and train program. Mary is a very sweet girl who comes to us with typical puppy behavior: jumping, play biting, little knowledge of commands, etc. Over the next two weeks Mary will be working on her off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see her progress!

Today I introduced and conditioned Mary to the ecollar. We practiced commands comee, sit, and place. Place is a command where Mary has to sit or lay on an object. This is great for building confidence as well as teaching Mary to just relax and be calm.

Today Mary and I went to the park to work on commands. We practiced come to sit and place. We started working on a new command, heel. It's still a work in progress, but she is walking a lot better now.

Back to the park again to work on commands. Mary practiced commands come, sit, heel, and place. Today we started to practice a new command, down. So far, this is her least favorite command. She doesn’t like being in such a submissive command. We are going to keep practicing until she loves Down.

Today we stayed home for training. Mary practiced all her commands: come to sit, down, place, and heel. She still is a little stubborn with the down command. Now we are starting to work on her duration (holding commands longer). Tonight she got to eat together with the pack. While I prepare their meal, they all must wait patiently. They all have to wait their turn to eat. No one is allowed to go eat out of another dogs bowl. Once they are done eating, they must sit and wait for the rest to finish or walk away. This teaches Mary to 1. be calm and patient 2. boundaries and 3. respect for the other pack members.

Today I took Mary to the park to work on commands. Mary is doing very well with her obedience, but likes to be sassy and throw a tantrum when she doesn't want to listen anymore. As, you can see in the middle photo, down isn't her favorite command. She obeys the first time I ask her, but pouts while in command. She is getting a lot better at holding commands. I can drop the leash, walk away from her, and she doesn't move. She is almost ready to start working off leash.

Mary and her buddies joined me on a shopping spree at The Citadel Outlets. Mary did very well with her obedience around all distractions.

Today we stayed home and Mary practiced all her commands. After training I took Mary and her friends on a hike. Mary did a great job on the hike. I dropped the leash and let her wander around. if she got a little too far from m, I would recall her and she would come right back to my side. she had a blast today!

Today Mary and I went to the park to work on her off leash commands. She is doing very well with her commands! I hardly have to correct her, obeying the first time I ask, but she still tells me (barks and howls at me) how she feels about following what I ask her to do. After her training, I took Mary and her boyfriend, Cooper, to my family's restaurant for lunch where they practiced their duration down command.

Today Mary took the day off training g and enjoyed her last day hanging out with her friends. She got a bath, but didn’t stay clean for too long. Mary has done an amazing job with her training, she can’t wait to go home and show you all she has learned!
