Ranger | Goldendoodle | Santa Monica, CA | In-Training

Ranger, a five year old Goldendoodle, joined OffLeash SoCal for our Two Week Board and Train program. He comes to us knowing his obedience commands but following then when he wants to. He is reactive to other dogs and will bark at strangers. Over the next two weeks Ranger will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress.

Ranger is settling in well at my home. He is a unsure of his new doggie friends, but is socializing with them fine. He only snapped once when one of the dogs got too close into his space.

Today Ranger and I worked on his training at home. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Down, and Place. Place is a command where Ranger must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Ranger did great with his first day of training!

Today Ranger and I went to the park to work on his commands. We practiced Come to Sit, Down, Place, and Heel. We worked on his duration (holding commands longer). He wasnā€™t reactive towards people and other dogs that walked by us.

Today Ranger and I went back to the park to work on his commands. We worked on a new command, Come to Heel. He is a smart boy and learned his new command fast. We practiced more on his duration. Ranger started interacting with the big dogs today. He was running around and playing with them.

Today Ranger and I went to The Block at Orange to work on his obedience around distractions. He was a a little distracted when we first got there, but as we walked around he began to focus on me and his commands. He did well around all the people distraction and didnā€™t bark at anyone.

Today Ranger and his friends, Victory and Aspen, went to Glendale Galleria to work on their obedience around distractions. Ranger and I tried practicing his commands semi-off leash (letting him drag the leash), but he isnā€™t quite ready yet. He would get distracted and try to walk away from me or he would be stubborn and not want to follow through with his commands.

Today Ranger and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We practiced his commands semi-off leash. He did better today with less distractions. Ranger is doing great! Some more practice and heā€™ll be ready to work completely off leash.

Today Ranger and I worked on his commands at home. A few other OffLeash SoCal trainers came over to socialize their dogs with the pack. Ranger did well with all the dogs. He was more interested in playing in fetch than playing with the other dogs.

Today Ranger and I work on his commands around the neighborhood once the rain took a break. Ranger worked completely off leash today! He did very well! We need some more work on his distance and duration. He wants to break command and follow me if I get a little too far from him.

Today Ranger and I went to Loweā€˜s to work on his off leash obedience. He was a little nervous with the loud noises, but after a while of walking around and practicing his commands Ranger was able to relax. He got a few compliments on how well behaved he is!

Today Ranger and I met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs at the park. Ranger got to practice his off leash obedience around all the dog distractions. He broke command a couple of times to try and say hi to the other dogs and trainers. Other than that, Ranger did pretty well and listened to his obedience commands.

Today Ranger and I went to the Block at Orange to work on his off leash obedience around distractions. He did very well with his obedience, even with a large dog that was barking and pulling towards him. Ranger ignored it and continued on with his commands. He got more compliments today on how well behaved he is.

Today Ranger and his buddy, Indy, joined me on a shopping spree at The Citadel Outlets.

Ranger did very well with his off leash obedience around the crowds of people. We only had one incident where Ranger snapped at another dog, but he wasnā€˜t in the wrong. Without my permission, the owners allowed their dog to come up and get in Rangerā€™s face. Ranger barked at the dog to back away.

Today Ranger took the day off of training. He spent his last day hanging out and playing with his friends before he leaves. Ranger canā€™t wait to go home and show you everything he has learned!
