Max, a 1 year old Golden Retriever, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our One Week Board and Train program. Max comes to us with lack of following commands, being easily distracted, jumping to greet, leash pulling, and leash reactivity. Over the week he will be working on his on leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Max has settled in well at my home. He is having a great time with all his new friends! Max has been running around and playing nonstop since he has been here.

Today Max and I went to the park to start his training. I introduced and conditioned him to the ecollar. We practiced commands Sit, Place, and Heel. Place is a command where Max must sit or lay on a defined object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching him to be calm and relaxed. Max’s friend, Archie, wanted to help out Max and teach him how to heel. Max did a great job on his first day of training! Please click the link above to pull up his Pupdate video.

Today Max and I went to the park to work on his obedience. We practiced Sit, Place, Heel, and Down. Max gave me a hard time with Down. He is not a fan of it, but we will keep practicing until Down is his favorite command to do. He is doing a lot better with Heel. Max is walking at my side, staying focused on me and where I am walking.

Today Max and I worked on his obedience commands around the neighborhood. We worked on two new commands: come to sit and come to heel. Come to Heel is a bit tricky, but we will keep practicing. Max did a little better with down today, still a struggle but better than yesterday. We also started working on his duration (holding his commands longer).

Today Max and I met with other OffLeash SoCal trainers and their dogs to work on his obedience around dog distractions. He was reactive at first, pulling on the leash and barking. As we worked through his commands, Max began relax and understand that his job is to ignore the dogs and focus on his commands.

Today Max and I went down to Huntington Beach to work on his obedience around distractions. He was a little overwhelmed and distracted when we first got there. We walked around and practiced his commands. After a little while Max calmed down and was able to focus. He was very interested in the pigeons.
