Kash | Bernedoodle | Redondo Beach, CA | In-Training

Updated: Mar 23, 2021

Kash, a 1 year old Bernedoodle, has joined OffLeash SoCal for our two week board and train program. Kash is a very sweet boy who is loved and adored by everyone that meets him. Kash comes to us with lack of following commands and improper greeting manners (jumping up and barking at people). Over the next two weeks Kash will be working on his off leash obedience and manners. Check in to see his progress!

Today I introduced and conditioned Kash to the ecollar. The first day I like to start off with treats that way Kash associates the collar as good thing. Kash has adapted to it pretty well, feeling the stimulation on low numbers which is great! In the video you see me holding out a treat away from me, Kash looks at it, I say his name and press the stimulation button. When Kash looks to me, I give him the treat. I want him to associate to collar to me. I want him to learn that focusing on me gets rewarded. After conditioning him to the collar, we practiced the Place command. Place is a command where Kash must sit or lay on an object. This command is great for building confidence as well as teaching Kash to be calm and relaxed. He did a great job on his first day of training!

We didn't let the rain stop us from training and having fun! Today Kash and I worked on his commands whenever the rain y stop. We added a new command today, which seems like he already knows. He loved playing in the rain. What Kash loved even more was the warm air from the blowdryer that took me 30-45 minutes to get him fully dry!

Today Kash and I worked on his commands around the neighborhood. We worked a lot on his loose leash heeling since he likes to walk ahead. He obeys all commands I ask of him, but will get right back up after he does it. So we started working on his duration (holding commands longer).

Sorry for the delay with the post. I was having issues with the app. Today Kash and his friend, Bailey, went with me to the park to assist with a lesson I had. After my lesson, Kash and I worked on his duration and distance recall. Kash is doing a great job with his obedience. I am able to walk away, father than the length of the leash, while Kash holds his commands. He is almost ready for me to unclip the leash!

Today Kash and I worked on his off leash obedience at home. He is almost ready to be off leash in public, but we need to tighten up his heel since he still tries to walk a little bit ahead. Practicing with the weaving poles help with keeping Kash right at my side. It forces him to slow down and stay close to my side so he can follow me through the sharp turns instead me bumping or tripping over him.

Kash and I went to The Citadel Outlet to work on his off leash obedience. Everyone loved him there. He sat politely while people pet him. Little kids loved hugging and petting him. Kash did a great job walking through crowds of people and walking past other dogs that were yapping at him. Kash only broke command once when he got startled by a little dog that ran up behind him.

In the morning Kash went to the groomer to get cleaned up. After, Kash and I met up with the other OffLeash SoCal trainers in Huntington Beach. Kash worked on all his off leash commands. He did awesome with all the different distractions around him (people, dogs, bikes, skateboards, etc.). Kash can't wait to go home and show you all he has learned!
